Somebody from Facebook asked me if I left Evan at home during our girl bonding time in Michigan. I answered Tom made that suggestion but I wasn’t prepared to be away from my son for 4 days. I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Ever since he was born the most I have been away from my sonĀ was overnight, twice. The first time was when I ran the Grand Rapids relay race 2 (?) years ago. The second time was in the Philippines last year. I did try for 2 nights for the last one but I missed him too much on the first day. Heck, I missed him after 4 hours. Still do.
But I was sure with Lanie’s sons, who were close to his age, and with their toys I know that he will be distracted enough to not want any attention from me. I was right, the most interaction we did was during mealtimes, bath and bedtime. Then afterwards, after reading to him 3 books, off I would go again to join Lanie, Rose and Cielito downstairs for more bonding. I thought that Evan would have trouble sleeping with the new surroundings with the lights off (although I did leave the door slightly ajar) but he didn’t. By the end of the day he was just exhausted. It was play, play and play for him.
So I was very amused upon waking up the morning after our trip this (photo above) was what greeted me . He missed his books so much that he did a lot of catching up on his reading. Before I had Evan I thought it would be so cool if my child would love books as much as we do but I ever expected that he will be this into it. Tom and I were not like that. Yup, so cool!

My daughter just got back from a week at her grandparents farm. I tell you a house never seemed so quite with no 4 year old running around and my wife working from her apartment. It was almost depressing and would have been had I not known that all would be back to normal at the end of the week. It is amazing how much we adapt to having kids.
Ed, they are really an extension of ourselves. Wow, one week! I guess working would make it a little easier. She had a blast with her grandparents for sure. I remember always looking forward to visiting mine when smaller.
